Getting Your Firearms License
Here is everything you need to know about getting licensed in Canada.
PAL
Possession & Acquisition License
Required for non-restricted firearms like rifles and shotguns used in precision rifle, sporting clays, and other disciplines.
(Training course costs will vary by instructor)
RPAL
Restricted PAL
Required for restricted firearms like handguns used in IPSC, IDPA, bullseye, and Olympic pistol competitions.
(Training course costs will vary by instructor)
The Licensing Process
Take the CFSC
Complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) through an accredited instructor. Find one in our instructor directory below.
Pass the Tests
Complete both the written and practical exams with a minimum 80% score.
Submit Application
Fill out RCMP form 5592 and submit with photos, fees, and references.
Wait for Approval
Processing takes 45 to 120 days. You will receive your PAL card by mail.
